New Amsterdam season 3 is coming on NBC, but there's still uncertainty when it comes to its official release date. Due to the current global health crisis, production may not start immediately and this could cause further delay.
Right now, there is no confirmed date as to when New Amsterdam season 3 will start filming. There are a lot of things to consider first before going back on set. One of the most important things here is the health and safety of everyone.
Although New York is flattening the curve, there are still safety measures that should be followed. There could be restrictions on set, which may further slowdown the production. But according to CarterMatt, the new installment could start filming either August or September.
After that, we could likely see New Amsterdam season 3 on air around October or November. Still, there is no guarantee to those dates since everything depends on the situation. Cast and crew could start working as soon as the situation gets a little bit better.
When it comes to the story, the upcoming installment has a lot of things to address, particularly Jocko Sims' Floyd Reynolds' future. We didn't get a clear answer as to where his story is going given that the previous installment was cut short.
During the virtual ATX Television Festival, Sims discussed where his character is heading moving forward. Reynolds moved to San Francisco to be with his fiance, but this story wasn't properly wrapped up since the series halted its production due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to Sims, the question as to whether or not Dr. Reynolds would be gone for good will be addressed in season 2 finale. But because of the unexpected changes, the story was moved to New Amsterdam season 3.
We could still see the character returning in the new installment to provide answers to his storyline. And if ever Reynolds sticks around, Sims has several things in mind as to what he could bring to his character. There are ideas on how his journey would be compelling.
Sims said he could use real-life situations into the character to bring more stories. For instance, he could use his physical health, like someone who came from a family with a history or diabetes or high blood pressure. It could also be about being a Black male.
These are some of the stories that could be included in Reynolds' storyline if ever he stays in the series. Meanwhile, the good news is that New Amsterdam season 3 won't be the final installment of the series as NBC renewed the show through season 5.
