There is little doubt that idols want to spend their free time relaxing or taking on some new hobbies. Unfortunately for Shownu, he has to spend a few days in the hospital. The MONSTA X leader recently needed to get emergency eye surgery when doctors discovered that there was something wrong with his left eye. Luckily, fellow member Hyungwon has offered some hopeful update on Son Hyunwoo's condition.
On July 3, Starship Entertainment shared a statement on the official MONSTA X social media accounts. In the statement, it was revealed that Shownu underwent opthalmic examination for a LASIK surgery that would have taken place on Thursday, July 2. However, it was revealed that there was a problem with his left retina and Son Hyunwoo had to undergo a thorough medical examination. From there, the idol was diagnosed with 'Left Retinal Detachment (Amotio Retinae)' and would have to get emergency surgery.
Not surprisingly, MONSTA X fans were concerned about Shownu. After all, the idol had posted on the group's official fancafe about getting breakfast earlier that day but he didn't mention his scheduled operation. Interestingly, it didn't take long before Son Hyunwoo decided to assure Monbebes about his condition. The MONSTA X leader shared a photo of himself on fancafe, letting his fans know that he was doing well after surgery and will be bulking up (eating a lot) later in the day.
Although Monbebes were reassured that Shownu was recovering well after the emergency surgery, there haven't been any updates from Starship Entertainment since then. Luckily, a fellow MONSTA X member decided to let fans know that Son Hyunwoo is doing well. On July 5, Hyungwon went on VLive to interact with Monbebes for the evening. Chae Hyungwon also gave an update on the group's leader, who had to stay at the hospital.
According to Hyungwon, Shownu would have to stay at the hospital for some time while he recovers from surgery. Chae Hyungwon stated that he told Son Hyunwoo that he can contact his dongsaeng any time if he was bored or had nothing to do. However, the MONSTA X leader has yet to call him so Hyungwon believes Shownu is doing fine. The group's lead dancer also pointed out that they are unable to visit him due to current conditions but assures Monbebes that Shownu is accompanied by their manager.
For now, it seems like Shownu is recovering well. Fans can rest assured that Son Hyunwoo will be ready for Monsta X Live: From Seoul With Luv, the group's upcoming virtual concert on Live X Live which has been moved to August 8 to give him more time to heal.
