A healthier and more committed Paul Pogba is deemed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a big boost to Manchester United, and the team manager is determined to keep the Frenchman on the roster for a longer period. The Norwegian is optimistic Pogba will remain at Old Trafford beyond his contract's expiration.

Pogba's existing deal with the Red Devils will end in the summer of 2021, but the team has the option to activate a 12-month extension, which no doubt Solskjaer will likely do. The club boss, however, is not hiding his intention to see the World Cup winner continue with his side after 2022.

Solskjaer said he wants to see the midfielder wearing the United jersey in the years to come, noting that the injury-plagued star has been better and happier since returning at the start of the season restart.

"We want to keep the best players around the club and hopefully we can do something," BBC reported the manager as saying, sharing his plan of continuing the good work rediscovered following Pogba's recovery from health issues.

The 27-year-old has been impressive so far playing in close tandem with January signing Bruno Fernandes. The two have earned the moniker as United's midfield maestros, and for a good reason - the club's attacking capabilities in the past few games have suddenly become fearsome.

The boost gained was best evidenced by the team's winning run that started in January. Since Fernandes arrived at Old Trafford and Pogba returned a few months later, United picked up 16 consecutive wins, and according to Solskjaer, he is actually gunning to finish the season without tasting defeat again.

The newfound confidence, to be sure, was partly due to Fernandes and Pogba blending well on the pitch, and naturally, United will not change a thing on the current status. As Solskjaer stressed, he intends to keep his best players around, and foremost of them is Pogba.

Metro said the Pogba seen with the Red Devils since the season restart is different from the unsure version at the start of the campaign. The Frenchman has been plotting a move-out Old Trafford, which was nearly realized last summer.

Before forced into the sideline twice in the season, Pogba made clear his intention to leave for Juventus or Real Madrid, but nothing materialize until the COVID-19 pandemic led to the suspension of the games.

The player in June apparently with a clearer mind and perspective. He was impressed that with a healthier lineup and with Fernandes on the team, United became capable of winning games and perhaps capturing titles soon.

"I know that since Paul's come back he's looking better and better. He's enjoying his football and let's see where it takes us," Solskjaer said was reported as saying.

Pogba will take to the pitch as United will face relegation-threatened Aston Villa on Thursday. Again, Solskjaer's side is favored to win, which has to be another reason for Pogba to stick with the club.
