Chelsea F.C. is exploring all options as far as their goalkeeping needs are concerned. There were high expectations on Kepa Arrizabalaga but it appears Frank Lampard is close to giving up on the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

There are now claims that the Blues are targeting Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid. it is no secret that Lampard has not been pleased with the performance of his goalkeepers. Kepa has failed to impress although the Blues coach reveals that the 25-year-old goalie has been trying to work on his game. Some months back, Lampard was forced to turn to Willy Caballero as their goalkeeper. Kepa was given chances but dealing him away may be more than his performance.

Chelsea also needs to crunch numbers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most know how Kepa was acquired for a staggering $85 million from Atletico Bilbao last season. But that investment has not reaped dividends, meaning the Blues may use part of that in a deal for Oblak. The 27-year-old player holds a hefty $150 million buyout clause, numbers that the Blues may not be able to afford. Hence, a recourse is to insert some player/s to offset the cash outlay. But this may also depend on what Los Indios wants.

Oblak has emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in the world, someone who could finally address the woes of the Blues. he would be a fine addition for Chelsea if Lampard can find a way to close a deal.

As for Kepa, he has struggled to adapt to the system of Lampard. If not through that trade, there is a chance he may be offered to other teams. Even if Chelsea falls short of getting Oblak, they have other targets in mind. Among the names mentioned include Andre Onana of Ajax and Roman Burki of Borussia Dortmund.

But the most important thing to consider of all is that Chelsea wants to wisen up on its investment. The Blues have been spending big the past months. They got Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to shore up their frontline. Kai Havertz could be joining as well. However, it remains that Lampard also needs to beef up other positions, one of which is their goalkeeping position.

Right now, this should be taken with a grain of salt. But it is no secret that Kepa has not panned up to expectations. More light should be shed on his fate this summer. The same holds on whether goalkeeping changes will be made at Stamford Bridge.
