Following a series of reports raising confusion among gamers and fans, Microsoft confirmed that it is discontinuing the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. The Redmond-based tech giant called its latest move a natural step. Microsoft intends to entirely shift its focus on Project XCloud and the arrival of Xbox Series X.

Microsoft Latest Statement on Xbox One X And Xbox One S

The Redmond-based company confirmed the latest information about some of its current-generation gaming consoles to The Verge. In a statement shared by the site, Microsoft said that it is halting production of its all-digital edition consoles Xbox One X and Xbox One S. The spokesperson also noted that Microsoft would continue to manufacture and sell the Xbox One S globally

"Gamers can check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability," the spokesperson added. CNET claimed that the company is making a significant investment to 'forge the future of gaming.' This year Microsoft would release its next-generation gaming console, the Xbox Series X.

When the company launched the Xbox One X, it advertised the console as the most powerful gaming device in the market. It boasts 6 Teraflops of power and could run games at native 4K resolutions, improving the games' graphics. Meanwhile, the Xbox One S is the company's all-digital console launched in Apr 2019. Xbox Series S is the company's first attempt at all-digital and disc-less gaming hardware.

Xbox Series X And Xbox Series S

The upcoming console is the company's first step into next-generation gaming. The device would be backward compatible with all the games on Xbox One. The company's move is admirable since this would allow gamers to still enjoy their favorite titles on the new and more powerful Xbox Series X.

With Microsoft discontinuing the production of both the Xbox One X and Xbox One S, it appears that it is preparing the Xbox Series X to be the current generation console's replacement. The company has been marketing the Xbox Series X as a powerful console since it was unveiled at The Game Awards last year. Meanwhile, the rumored Xbox Series S or Xbox Lockhart could be the company's replacement for the Xbox One S.

Earlier reports claimed that Microsoft might unveil the more affordable and less powerful Xbox Series S in August. The company has not yet acknowledged or confirmed the existence of Xbox Series S. However, several references discovered in various Microsoft official documents give credence to this claim.

Microsoft announced that the Xbox Series X would arrive on the holiday of 2020.
