WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for The Bold Type Season 4 finale. Read at your own risk.

Freeform hasn't yet officially renewed or canceled The Bold Type season 5, given that the previous season has just recently concluded. There are still uncertainties regarding the series, but the finale of the fourth installment gives viewers hope about its future.

The Bold Type season 5 might be renewed rather than being canceled, as the season 4 finale generated the same 0.1 ratings in the 18-49 demographic we've seen through most of the season. The episode also generated more than 200,000 live viewers, which is the most watch-episodes since January.

CarterMatt noted Freeform may now look at the series' DVR and streaming numbers before making an official renewal announcement. It would possibly take about a few weeks or months before announcing the status of the series.

The fourth installment ended with only 16 episodes of the originally planned 18 episodes due to the production shutdowns in March. Because of that, Freeform wrapped up the series with unexpected twists and turns and a lot of unresolved plotlines.

There are still two remaining episodes from the fourth installment that weren't filmed and these might be incorporated in The Bold Type season 5. The season 4 finale saw Sutton still estranged from her husband Richard and hooked up with her ex-boyfriend.

Kat texted Ava, saying that things shouldn't go further between them. Jane, for her part, confronted Jacqueline after one of her stories has been scrapped. It looks like these stories will further continue if Freeform decides to renew the series for another installment.

In an interview with TV Guide, showrunner Wendy Straker Hauser revealed that the stories left in the season 4 finale will continue if ever there will be a new season. But, there would be a few changes and they could explore something different this time around.

If The Bold Type season 5 is renewed, some of the previous storylines could be either changed or dropped completely. In fact, the season 4 finale already made last-minute changes to Kat's story. Originally, there's an intention to keep Kat and Ava's relationship open.

However, the series opted to go in a different direction and edited Kat's story, in which she set a text to Ava telling her their relationship has to end because it's too complicated. In The Bold Type season 5, Ava might be completely out of the picture and Kat will likely move on to someone more suited to her.
