Manchester United remains linked to Jadon Sancho although there are obstacles ahead. This includes the asking fee of Borussia Dortmund for the 20-year-old player. Regardless, England teammate Jesse Lingard believes he would be a great addition to Old Trafford if it progresses. Unfortunately, he may not get a chance to play alongside Sancho if the United management opts to cut ties with Lingard.

Sancho's move to Old Trafford remains up in the air with the Red Devils facing financial difficulties. Dortmund is asking close to $141 million for the English winger, a price that may be too much to satisfy. United previously mentioned that they will spend no more than $61 million for Sancho. If they hold up to this, the chances of seeing the 20-year-old move to Old Trafford is not looking that good.

But it appears Lingard is pulling for his English teammate. He believes that if Sancho is inclined to move to Old Trafford, he can make ends meet. He could push Dortmund to move him through the final say remains with the club. But Man Utd. also needs to do its share and consider the investment carefully. Their planned pitch is not even half of what Dortmund is asking.

“Jadon is a brilliant player. It's obviously up to him,” Lingard said to Goal.com. “I’ve seen him with England, I’ve seen his qualities and I feel like he’d be a great addition to any team.”

Like most clubs, United is likely checking out other options. Some players may cost less in the market as alternatives to Sancho. However, the talent-level may not be the same. If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fails to find a suitable alternative, the final recourse is to likely wait until next season when the financial crisis brought in by the COVID-19 hopefully dies down.

As for Lingard, he too is in a spot. The 27-year-old has not exactly performed well and has been struggling with the Red Devils. He admits that this season has been especially tough on him.

“It’s been a lot different (this season). I know personally, I’ve not been at it and I know what I needed to do to get that confidence back," Lingard said.

All Lingard can do is now is to try and work on his game and adapt to the Red Devils' system. If he fails, he could find himself being dealt away after this season.
