The Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, was the wife of King George VI. They are Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret's parents.

She passed away in 2002. While little is known about the family's ties and relationships with each other, a recently released documentary titled, The Private Lives of the Windsors, reportedly exposed a lot of things about the British Royals, particularly Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II first met during their teenage years. Since then, reports said that the young princess has already set her eyes to her then-future husband.

When the time came, her mother, the Queen Mother, did not approve of the union, royal historians said in the documentary. As revealed, this is because she saw the young Duke of Edinburgh as "dangerously progressive," according to 9Honey.

The documentary, also, went on to share that the King's Consort was "worried" that her daughter was about to marry the "wrong kind of man." Aside from the young Prince's German heritage, as well as his "loose connections" to the Nazi party, Prince Philip was not reportedly the "upstanding" British husband for the then-Princess Elizabeth.

Despite this, King George VI and his Consort could not reportedly do anything about it. So, the wedding happened in 1947.

The royal historians noted, however, that the Queen Mother's "dislike" for the Duke of Edinburgh "went beyond" these things. As stated, she viewed her daughter's husband as an "enemy," whom she needed to compete with for the then-Princess Elizabeth's attention, "time, and affection."

Royal historian and biographer Jane Ridley, also, said that the early years of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II's marriage would see a "tug-of-war" and a "tussle for the ear" of the British Monarch between the Monarch's mother and her husband. But, aside from her distaste for her son-in-law, she, also, reportedly had similar feelings toward her daughter.

In the same documentary, the experts claimed that Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was "jealous" of her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, according to the Daily Mail. As explained, this happened when King George VI passed away, and their daughter became the head of the British Monarchy.

When her husband died, the Queen Mother was only 51-years-old. She reportedly expected to continue being the matriarch of the family, and experience the perks of being the Consort.

However, there were a lot of changes when her daughter became the Queen. She felt that she "had been cut off in her prime," royal biographer Christopher Warwick said.

He further asserted that Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon "loved" her position as the Queen. But, all of a sudden, this was taken from her, the expert explained.
