Meghan Markle is, reportedly, devastated at how much her father, Thomas Markle, was "fully corrupted" by the British tabloid press. She initially had misgivings that his father would go against her and said that Thomas has been the victim in this whole drama over his staged paparazzi photo.
These revelations were uncovered in an upcoming biography about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's exit in the royal family. A trusted confidant of the Duchess of Sussex apparently revealed to authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that Meghan was desperate to get her father to London for her wedding despite the photo's release.
The book Finding Freedom quoted Meghan's messages to her father when the controversial paparazzi photos of Thomas came out. She asked her father if the images were fake and promised him protection if he said yes.
Thomas, apparently, lied to his daughter and implied that he was harassed and victimized by the paparazzi. The truth eventually came out that Thomas staged the shoot and worked with the tabloid photographers. Needless to say, this was a royal embarrassment for his daughter days before her wedding to Prince Harry.
In an interview two years later, Thomas claimed that he earned, and continues to earn, a substantial amount from those staged photos. But, he originally agreed to the deal with the paparazzi not for the money to repair his image as the public seemed to think Prince Harry's future father-in-law was a slob.
Finding Freedom claimed that Meghan believes her father was "baited" by the tabloid press. Thomas enjoyed his private life but was forced to become a public property each time the paparazzi and tabloid journalists waved their checks at him, the source said.
Some of the book's revelations have also been detailed in a legal case filed by the Duchess of Sussex against Mail on Sunday. In the lawsuit, Meghan alleged that the press violated her privacy when they printed private letters she wrote to her father. Those letters underscored her hurt and pain over her father's betrayal but she still pleaded that they must talk and work their issues out.
This happened after Thomas had a heart attack and wasn't able to attend Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding. Thomas, however, has not responded to his daughter's calls and Prince Harry's text messages and went to the press to feed stories instead, prompting Meghan Markle to cut her ties with her father for good.
