Carmelo Anthony played the best of his NBA games with the New York Knicks. He didn't get to wear a ring with the team but Melo achieved superstar status with the Knicks and reports said the league veteran is gunning to rejoin his old squad, if that is possible.

Anthony and the Knicks parted ways in 2017 with the former forcing a trade. Unsurprisingly, the team is far from excited about the notion of dealing with the 36-year-old again. After all, Melo is certainly on his way out while the Knicks are building up with Tom Thibodeau as the new man in charge.

Anthony, however, has only good words for the freshly hired head coach and the Portland star is entertaining the dream of working under the man and perhaps play his last days with the Knicks. The forward was born in Brooklyn and wishes to be home before saying goodbye to the NBA.

According to the NY Post: "There is strong belief the Brooklyn-born Anthony would want to finish his career as a Knick and play for Thibodeau, whom he has publicly praised."

Giving Melo another shot is something the Knicks can seriously consider. Anthony surprised the league when he arrived in Orlando with a skinny frame, which the seven-time All-Star was deliberate on his part. The Trail Blazers wanted him to play the small forward role so he figured his frame should fit the requirements, which should explain the radical trimming down.

The build that Anthony now sports is perfect for him and should also be most suitable for the Knicks. Melo can still be an asset for his old team and play to his age at the same time by mentoring Kevin Knox.

However, the NBA veteran having another in New York will all depend on the decision of Knicks president Steve Mills. NY Post said the team executive is not keen on doing business with the player again for giving him quite a headache a few years back.

The Knicks though might be convinced to take a pause and weigh in on the facts. Melo spent quite a spell with the Knicks and the star was the face of the team for some time. He could revisit part of that role if given a second wind, and both the Knicks and Melo would mutually benefit, according to Fadeaway World.

True the Melo of the past years is no longer the Melo of today but as the same report noted, Anthony with the Trail Blazers in the current season is nothing short of impressive. He remains productive and has proven through hard work that he is still a star, a valuable one at that.

Most importantly, Anthony is deemed rejuvenated and with a better attitude on and off the court, and these factors should weigh heavily on the New York front office to allow Melo to play his last days in the NBA wearing the Knicks jersey.
