Elon Musk, recently, clarified what his "red pill" tweet was all about. He, reportedly, said that Ivanka Trump might have taken it the "wrong way" since he did not intend it to have a political message.

The Tesla CEO briefly discussed the whole controversy with Maureen Dowd in an interview for The New York Times. He just seemingly had to share his thoughts following the backlash he received from it.

Earlier in May, Elon Musk tweeted about the red pill, which is a reference from the film, The Matrix. He posted "Take the red pill," alongside an emoji of a red rose.

Business Insider explained that the iconic red pill from the film allows Keanu Reeves' character to see the "true nature of the world." However, the phrase has since, reportedly, obtained a "more complicated meaning."

As noted, conservatives now widely use the "red pill" phrase in describing individuals who had "ideological shifts" toward conservativism. The publication also said that incels and men's rights activists are the ones who "first appropriated" the idea of using the "red pill" for their causes.

Despite not explaining what his tweet meant then, Ivanka Trump "retweeted" his post and responded to him, saying that she had already "taken" the red pill. Her older brother Donald Trump Jr. also, reportedly, did the same thing.

Following their posts on the social media platform, several netizens slammed the First Daughter, as well as Elon Musk, according to Econo TimesThe Matrix's co-creator and director, Lilly Wachowski, was even one of the people who slammed them. Not to mention, the mother of Musk's partner Grimes, also, joined the netizens who called out Ivanka Trump and the Tesla CEO.

During the CEO's interview, he continued to explain that Ivanka Trump might have taken his tweet, "too politically." He, then, said that the red pill tweet was simply about accepting reality "as it is" and as opposed to what one wishes it was.

Reports, however, pointed out that Elon Musk has, repeatedly, touted several right-wing comments. Some of them, reportedly, include his thoughts about the "stay-at-home" guidelines, deeming it "fascist," as well as his dismissive comments about the COVID-19 statistics.

On Ivanka Trump's part, she has not commented yet about the Tesla CEO's statements during the weekend. Some publications said that she might no longer address this, as what she always does. Besides, she, reportedly, has other controversies to face aside from the red pill debacle.
