U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla is reportedly nearing to making a more affordable Model Y, according to a new report. Rumors have it that the company's first rear-wheel-drive version for the Model Y has entered into trial production. Meanwhile, a new report reveals that Tesla Model Y has surpassed the global sales of Chevy Bolt.

More Affordable Tesla Model Y

A new report claims that Tesla might be close to making a more affordable Model Y. According to Electrek, several sources revealed that the electric vehicle maker already started the trial production of the rear-wheel-drive Long Range of the Model Y. This particular version of the electric crossover vehicle could reportedly lower the price than the current all-wheel model available in the market today.

When Tesla debuted the Model Y in 2019, it introduced four various versions. These are the Standard Range, Long Range, Dual Motor AWD with a long-range battery and the Performance version. Interestingly, Tesla CEO Elon Musk earlier said that the company was canceling the Model Y Standard Range.

 

Musk's Recent Announcement

He announced that the company would instead add a long-range rear-wheel-drive version to the series. Musk also noted that the new version of the electric crossover could arrive in the 'next few months.' But, with Electrek's latest report, it looks like the U.S. electric vehicle maker is on the last final steps in bringing the rumored more affordable version of the Model Y to the market.

So far, it is not certain how much the 'more affordable Model Y version would cost. The Tesla CEO earlier hinted at a $45,000 price when he revealed the new version. But, based on Tesla's calculator suggested that it could be around $48,000. Aside from this, there are several other price factors that are worth considering.

A new and more affordable Tesla Model Y version coming to the consumers could substantially lift the U.S. electric vehicle maker's fortune. Among the company's vehicles, the Tesla Model 3 remains the main attraction because of its friendly pricing scheme. In other Tesla news, the company is on a hiring spree as supported by recent job listings, particularly in China.

According to reports, the electric vehicle maker ramps up its production in the Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai. Musk said earlier this year that the company aims to increase the production output of its Shanghai facility.
