A new report revealed that Tesla is in a hiring spree in Shanghai as it ramps up its Model Y production. The post lists designers and 1000 factory workers for the Gigafactory 3 located in Shanghai. The company's recent move is interesting, considering the record-setting number of unemployment all over the world.

Tesla On Hiring Spree

A recent report released by Reuters claimed that this is the first time that Tesla looked for designers in China. Unfortunately, the job post does not say how many designers are needed. Aside from this, another hiring posted by the local government of Lingang in Shanghai showed that the U.S. electric vehicle maker is recruiting 600 workers.

These workers would be assigned in the bodywork, painting, stamping, and assembly workshops. Tesla is also looking for 150 workers for quality inspection, another 20 workers for safety work, and 200 for logistics work all for its Gigafactory 3 facility in Shanghai. Reuters also revealed a couple of sources with knowledge on the matter informed the publication that the hiring spree is for the production of Tesla Model Y in Shanghai.

Tesla Model Y Production In Tesla's recent Q2 report, it states that the company intends to build production facilities in Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai for the Model Y. The company also aims to make its first deliveries for the said model in the region in 2021. Despite the current pandemic, Tesla was able to ship over 30,000 vehicles during the second quarter of this year in China. The majority of these deliveries are made in China Tesla Model 3 sedans. Last March, Tesla posted in China that it is looking for solar and energy storage project managers. The company plans to extend its energy business in the Southeast Asian country. A few weeks ago, Tesla insider Kelvin yang shared on Twitter images of Tesla's job hiring post. The job opening includes delivery and sales positions, as well as Delivery Experience Specialists and Product Experts.

According to the job ads, these positions are for the coastal provinces in China, including Fujian, Guangdong, Guanxi, Hainan, and Changsa. At present, Tesla's Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai has an annual build rate of 200,000 units per annum or around 4000 cars per week. The Shanghai factory is currently involved in the production of Made-In-China Tesla Model 3 sedan. Tesla is reportedly planning the phase 2A of the Shanghai Gigafactory 3.
