A recent report revealed that Sony is poised to make a major PS5 announcement sometime this month. The announcement is different from the earlier announced PS5 State of Play happening on August 6. Speculations are rife online that this alleged announcement could include the unveiling of the price and specific release date of Sony's next-generation gaming console.

PS5 Major Announcement in August

Bloomberg recently published an article revealing a potential announcement from Sony for the PS5. Citing an official at the PlayStation unit, the report claimed that the Japanese gaming giant's announcement about the PlayStation 5 is 'tentatively scheduled this month (August).' According to the report, this announcement would reportedly focus on everything about the company's upcoming gaming console.

Unfortunately, the report was vague on the specifics of the alleged next PS5 announcement event. So far, Sony has not yet revealed any details regarding the price, pre-order, delivery, and release date details of the PS5. Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan earlier confirmed that there are still a lot of key PS5 features that are yet to be revealed. He added that features earlier announced were just the base of the future technology the PS5 has to offer to the gaming industry.

In the company's quarterly financial statements, Sony reiterated that the PS5 is on track to launch sometime in the holiday of 2020. "Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as constraints due to employees working from home and restrictions on international travel remain, necessary measures are being taken, and preparations are underway with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season. At this time, no major problems have arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony's own first-party studios or its partners' studios," the financial statement reads.

PS5 State Of Play

Sony is set to hold the next PS5 State of Play on August 6. In an official blog post, the company confirmed the time and date and shared some details of the said event. Sony also emphasized that the upcoming State of Play episode would solely focus on showing gameplay footage and announcing new games for the PlayStation 4 and PS VR.

According to the post, the next State of Play would not make any announcements related to the PS5 hardware, release date, price, or pre-order. Sony clarified this following previous reports that some fans, during the DualSense controller virtual showcase lined up believing that the PS5 would be open to pre-order.
