Many high profile personalities participated in the most recent social media trend, the hashtag "Challenge Accepted." But, among all the famous individuals who took part, Ivanka Trump obtained the most criticisms.
She posted a black and white photo of herself during one of her pregnancies, according to Glamour. Alongside the photo, she included a brief caption, expressing "gratitude for the sisterhood."
The First Daughter, also, encouraged her followers to "choose love," and "strengthen one another." She, then, said that everyone is a "mother," who brings unique and beautiful things in the world. In the end, she challenged everyone to "lead with love."
The "Challenge Accepted" trend surfaced a few weeks ago on various social media platforms. Many women posted black and white selfies in support of the "challenge." In most cases, the caption of these photos revolved around these two words: "challenge" and "accepted." Hence, the name of the trend.
Reports said that the challenge is about "female empowerment" and "women supporting women." However, many individuals, reportedly, criticized the trend for "lacking" real substance.
Claims of its origins came amid the surge of the trend. As alleged, it all originated in Turkey in support of women's rights in the country.
But, Taylor Lorenz from the New York Times, reportedly, debunked these claims. She said that, since 2016, different forms of the "challenge accepted" challenge have trended across various social media platforms.
Amid all the talks of its origins, many critics still found the recent trend as "vapid" and "meaningless," according to the Daily Mail. Alongside it, netizens, reportedly, deemed the trend more pointless when Ivanka Trump joined.
They said that they are not supporting a "white-supremacist-enabling-legacy-case," who is currently "destroying the country." Some pointed out that, if she, truly, supports women, she would be "outraged" over her father's actions.
Other netizens, also, called her a "joke." They even sent her many face-vomiting emojis to show their "disgust."
In an article from Refinery29, the writer Elly Belle questioned Ivanka Trump's motive in referencing all women as "mothers." The article titled, No, Ivanka, We Are Not "ALL" Mothers, states that the First Daughter might be trying to establish herself as similar to everyone else. It, also, asserts that she is likely using her identity as a mother and a woman to dispute that the Trump administration has, reportedly, hurt women and mothers.
Whatever Ivanka Trump's intentions, though, the writer continued to call her out and explained that not every woman is a mother. She pointed out that many women today choose not to be mothers, and some women could not be mothers. In the end, Belle asserted that Ivanka Trump has, simply, established herself as someone who is not thinking about others.
