Meghan Markle was an actress before she tied the knot with Prince Harry in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex was used to her Hollywood life before having to adapt strict Royal Family rules.
Being a newbie to the clan at the time, Meghan Markle still had a lot of leaning to do. However, it was already obvious early on that the Duchess of Sussex will be taking the modern approach and bend some royal rules.
While popular royals like the late Princess Diana and Kate Middleton, most of the time, got away with doing something out of the norm, Meghan Markle was reprimanded for simply wearing one particular accessory, according to the book “Finding Freedom.” Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito, then, discussed the alleged incident on the Royally Obsessed podcast.
"She got a call from senior Palace aide saying wearing necklaces like that only encourage the photographers to pursue her and create more headlines. When she was given that feedback she listed and just took it then she broke down in tears to a friend afterward,” Roberta Fiorito said.
The necklace that, reportedly, got Meghan Markle in trouble with Royal Family aides was a gold chain with two small letters on it, M and H, which stand for Meghan and Harry. The royal commentators noted that it was even hard to see the necklace unless you zoom in the pictures, so they were surprised that Palace aides made a big deal out of it.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially quit royal life at the end of March. After their withdrawal, the couple moved to the U.S. with their son Archie to make a fresh start. Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer working royals, they have been doing their own thing after their exit.
Just like before, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still speaking up on causes that they are passionate about. The Duchess of Sussex even discussed against the “status quo,” which people find to be quite bold.
While some see this move as Meghan Markle trying to seek her own path since leaving the Royal Family, many are convinced that she’s copying Princess Diana. The Princess of Wales rebelled against the monarchy after her divorce from Prince Charles, and it appears like the Duchess of Sussex is doing just that.
While Meghan Markle tried to adapt to Royal life, she, previously, shared her frustrations of wanting to defend herself, but she was not allowed to do it.
