Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's unofficial biography was released Tuesday in the UK. Nevertheless, "Finding Freedom" had attracted much attention months before its publication.

There was been a lot of speculation Markle and Harry contributed to the biography. The couple's representative has denied this but many remain convinced they had "secret interviews" for "Finding Freedom."

Omid Scobie, one of the authors, appeared on U.S. TV show "Good Morning America" to discuss "Finding Freedom." The royal writer said Markle and Prince Harry had nothing to do with the biography. "I know there's a lot of speculation about the couple having sort of given secret interviews for the book and having weighed in but it really couldn't be further from the truth," he said.

Scobie said the book was based on interviews with people close to Markle and Harry including friends, staff and acquaintances. He and Carolyn Durand wrote "Finding Freedom" and they are said to have had unique access to the British royal family and had opportunities to observe the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Harry and Markle were offered $1 million for a tell-all interview. However, a royal watcher said the couple were warned against it.

Australian journalist Angela Mollard believed taking the money would have ended badly for the couple - especially the former actress. She said if the couple had agreed to the interview the outcome could have been similar to the near-universal condemnation directed at Prince Andrew for his 2019 television interview about his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Markle and Harry live in Los Angeles with their son Archie. The duke and duchess stepped down from their senior royal roles at the end of March. The couple said they wished to be "financially independent" as they started their new lives in the U.S.
