Princess Anne is, currently, serving the British Monarchy as the Princess Royal. As the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, she obtained the title, as what the royal tradition dictates.
Despite being born next to Prince Charles, who currently serves the Crown as the Heir Apparent, she has the farthest position, among the siblings, in the line of succession. Her younger siblings, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, "overtook" her place due to gender, according to the Daily Express.
Amid all the royal rules concerning the Queen's heirs, many have wondered whether she could become her mother's successor in the future, or obtained that kind of chance in the past.
Princess Anne is the 14th person in line to the British Throne. She comes after her siblings, as well as their children.
In the future, the chance of her, taking Queen Elizabeth's place in the British Monarchy is quite "unlikely." Reports added that the same thing likely applies when Prince Charles ascends and becomes the King of the United Kingdom.
In the past, however, she might have had that kind of chance, being much closer to the Queen in the line of succession. As noted, this might have become possible if only the Succession to the Crown Act 2013 took its effect back then.
The Act changes the rules in the line of succession, eliminating the precedence of a royal because of gender. As a result, the eldest among the royal children will always precede their siblings, regardless of their gender. This is why Prince William and Kate Middleton's only daughter, Princess Charlotte, stands after Prince George, the eldest, and before Prince Louis, the youngest, in the line of succession to the Crown.
The publication, then, asserted that the royal rule change could have meant Princess Anne staying in the line of succession, just right next to Prince Charles. However, the Act only, reportedly, applies to those royals who were born after October 2011. Therefore, the Princess Royal "missed out."
Despite not having much higher standing in the line of succession, the Queen's daughter has always remained committed to the British Monarchy. In a separate report from the Daily Express, royal experts and analysts deem Princess Anne as the most hard-working royal, even surpassing her brothers, including Prince Charles.
Every year, she has the most number of royal engagements and appearances among all British Royals. In 2019, however, the Prince of Wales, reportedly, surpassed her by 15 engagements. Nevertheless, reports said that she remains to be the "most industrious" royal.
