Stargirl season 2 is renewed and, officially, happening on both DC Universe and The CW. Despite the renewal, the series won't be arriving anytime soon due to the current health crisis. The good thing is that more stories are coming when the series returns to the small screen.

Eclipso could be one of the biggest adversaries in Stargirl season 2, which was hinted in season 1 finale. In the closing minutes of the episode, Cindy (Meg DeLacy) found him trapped within a diamond. He has been encased in a Heart of Darkness and he can control and possess others.

Some speculated that Eclipso could take over Cindy's body and gain her powers as Shiv, making her one of the most dangerous villains in the next installment. Or perhaps, Cindy could use him and have someone else possessed so she could have a new ally of her own.

Also, the season 1 finale teased the arrival of another Big Bad in the form of Shade. This character has been briefly hinted in the series and he could be a big part of the story moving forward. His mysterious nature makes him a significant force and a big threat to Courtney and the rest of the JSA.

Speaking to TVLine, series creator Geoff Johns has something to say about Eclipso and Shade. He said Eclipso is an interesting character since he's the embodiment of darkness and corruption, while Shade was set up as one of the new Big Bad in Stargirl season 2.

Johns, who also serves as the showrunner, further teased that more characters and surprises are coming once the new season premieres. One of the intriguing parts here is the presence of Starman (Joel McHale), who showed up at the end of the finale. It's yet to be seen whether this person is him or someone who is just pretending to be him.

Meanwhile, Stargirl season 2 hasn't started production yet since the first installment has just concluded. Considering the current global health crisis, the hiatus might be a little bit longer. Also, Brec Bassinger, who plays the titular character, revealed that filming won't start until 2021.

Bassinger told Collider that they're going to read the script first, and then start shooting sometime in 2021. A lot of things should be considered first before going back to work, such as following certain health measures. And, because of the filming delay, we could expect Stargirl season 2 premiering in either later 2021 or early 2022.
