Isaiah Thomas is lacking an NBA assignment these days but a few seasons back, the 31-year-old made the All-Star twice and was an MVP contender while with the Boston Celtics. Those days are gone now but Thomas is setting his sight for another shot at the league, if possible with the Golden State Warriors.
When Thomas joined the Celtics in 2015, things started looking up for the guard. The next three seasons proved monumental as his stock started rising but a trade deal with the Cavaliers triggered the player's downhill.
Injury woes ended Thomas' scintillating run and he bounced off from one organization to another. His last active assignment was with the Washington Wizards but Thomas was again shipped off to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The once rising star never played a game for the Clippers and the team decided to cut him loose early this year. Thomas is working his way back to the league and suggested he can be of help with the Dubs.
"I need that Warriors action. I'll come off the bench serving," Clutch Points reported Thomas' tweet as saying.
It was in response to the Twitter post made by former Lakers star Jared Dudley, who reminded that come next season the Warriors will be a force to reckon with. GSW exited early in the season but Dudley said the team is certainly on a strong title run for the upcoming campaign.
It appeared that Thomas has the same sentiment and if given the chance, he wants to see action and campaign with the Warriors.
Although standing only at 5-foot-9, the star shone and fired 28.9 points per game playing in his last year with Boston. If Thomas can find a good part of that excellent form for next season then the Warriors might indeed take a second hard look.
According to NBC Sports, Dwayne Wade approved of the scenario that Thomas can come off the bench and contribute to the Warriors cause. Thomas has been struggling in the past seasons but there is still fire in his game that GSW might still find quite useful.
For instance, he remains deadly from the three-point area as his average with the Wizards on that proved his career-high. If Thomas can suit up with the Warriors, he can surely be deployed by Steve Kerr as a backup with the long-range sniping coming from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson failed to hit the mark.
It is expected that the Warriors will do some head-hunting in the offseason and they might see some value still attached to Thomas, especially when filling their requirements for reinforcement.
