Magnum P.I. season 3 hasn't started production at the moment and there's no indication when filming could begin. Due to the current health crisis, cast and crew weren't able to start working immediately. Now, another bad news is that there won't be any holiday episodes this time around.
In a recent Twitter post, the official writers' room account of the series confirmed that Magnum P.I. season 3 won't be airing specific holiday episodes. The decision has a lot to do with the uncertainties in the world right now, particularly the real-life health crisis.
Previous reports suggest the new season is expected to begin filming this August. However, there's no update until now whether or not the production will push through in the said month. But, if ever filming begins in the coming weeks, the latest installment could premiere in late October or early November.
Still, nothing is guaranteed at the moment. Right now, the series has to accommodate the production delays and the scheduling decisions of CBS. It would be challenging to deliver holiday episodes, given that these stories are seasonal.
Viewers may find it odd to watch a Christmas Day episode airing in February, or Valentine's Day episode airing in March. This is one of the reasons why Magnum P.I. season 3 decided not to deliver any special episodes this time around.
But, even though there aren't holiday episodes, there are still a lot of interesting stories coming for the core characters. For instance, the new season will continue to explore Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Higgins' (Perdita Weeks) relationship.
In the previous season, the two almost got married so that Higgins could stay in the country. But, they were able to find a solution to their problem. Now, Magnum has to adjust to Higgins' new position, a promotion granted to her to make sure she'll stay in the country.
Moving forward, it's interesting to see who their dynamics further evolve in Magnum P.I. season 3. Their partnership is one of the most interesting parts of the series, regardless of whether or not it could lead to a romantic direction.
But, apart from the potential romance, the new season will continue to see Magnum dealing will more complicated cases. His military past might be explored as well, something that bonded him with TC (Stephen Hill) and Rick (Zachary Knighton).
Meanwhile, Magnum P.I. season 3 will, also, bring familiar faces from the now-concluded CBS series, Hawaii Five-0. The previous season brought Taylor Wily (as Kamekona), Ian Anthony Dale (Adam), and Kimee Balmilero (Noelani).
