Prince George is, reportedly, going to start learning a new royal family tradition. The seven-year-old prince and third in line to the British throne will, apparently, begin fly fishing, a sport enjoyed by his grandfather, Prince Charles.
Sources revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton are keen for Prince George to start practice fishing in the River Dee in Balmoral this summer. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, reportedly, asked a ghillie's help to teach the young prince master some fishing skills using small rods. A ghillie is the Scottish term for someone who helps boys hunt or fish.
Prince Charles, apparently, loves fly fishing and looks forward to this summer activity whenever he's in Balmoral. The Prince of Wales taught Prince William and Prince Harry to fly fish as little boys with the help of their nanny Tiggy Legge Bourke.
Bourke is now retired and residing in Wales but the source said that she will be thrilled to know that Prince George will learn this beloved royal sport. The nanny is, also, reportedly, the godmother of Archie, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, and will likely encourage the Sussex baby to fly fish when he's older.
In early August, Prince Charles extended his stay in Balmoral for one more week when he apparently learned that the environment for fly fishing during his visit was so great. According to reports, locals spotted the Prince of Wales driving from his residence in Birkhall to head to the River Dee, with plenty of fishing rods in his car. A royal photographer confirmed on Twitter that locals informed him of Prince Charles's extended stay to go fly fishing.
Prince Charles learned to love the sport from his grandmother, the Queen Mother. Prince Philip is also a big fan and is known to encourage other members of the royal family to a fly fishing expedition during their summer breaks.
Meanwhile, before heading to Balmoral for the rest of the summer, Prince George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, will also learn to paint mugs and pots for their special project with their mom. According to reports, the Cambridge children and Kate were seen visiting local hobby shop in Norfolk to buy painting supplies and spend an afternoon of arts and crafts.
Prince William and Kate encourage outdoor activities, arts and crafts, gardening and even cooking among their growing children. Kate especially believes that these activities help Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis become well-rounded individuals when they grow up.
