Filming of The Conners season 3 is, currently, underway. The ABC multi-camera sitcom has been off-air for a while due to the global health crisis. But, now, cast and crew began working again, though there are some restrictions on the set that needed to be followed.

On Wednesday, Aug. 17, Deadline reported that The Conners season 3 already started production. The series is believed to be the first comedy show to resume filming on set. Fox, on the other hand, is eyeing a September filming date for its comedy sitcom, Last Man Standing season 9.

Now, the biggest challenge for the ABC show is that it needs to follow certain health measures to ensure everyone's safety. Reportedly, there'll be limited crew on set while filming and there's no studio audience, as well. This could continue in the coming weeks and months for the sake of the cast and crew.

Having a lot of viewers in the studio comes with certain risks, as most people are in a confined space and would be hard to follow the social distancing measures. But, aside from dealing with the filming challenges brought by the pandemic, The Conners season 3 could also tell stories about the real-life health crisis.

The sitcom will continue to examine working-class America, with the new installment showing how the majority of people deal with the situation during difficult times. The show could take on the global health crisis, but the tone won't change too much.

After all, this is a comedy show so the stories would be expressed in their own point of view. Although some things could get emotional sometimes, the series would still stick to its usual tone and would deliver light moments for everyone to enjoy.

Meanwhile, there's a question whether or not Katey Sagal is coming back as Louise in The Conners season 3. While she was part of the season 2 finale, her fate in the new season remains uncertain. The scheduling is the biggest conflict here since the actress also stars on ABC's Rebel.

In a previous interview with TVLine, showrunner Bruce Helford made it clear that Sagal's appearance is still possible in the new installment. He said that, although they didn't know her complete availability, the actress is open to doing more of the sitcom. Also, there's still a lot to explore with Louise's storyline, especially now that she and Dan (John Goodman) are a full-pledge couple.

If there are no further hurdles in filming, CarterMatt noted we could expect The Conners season 3 premiering in October.
