David Henrie and Greg Sulkin's mini Wizards of Waverly Place reunion turned into a reboot planning. The two teased everyone was up to reprise their roles and relive the Russo family's adventure, even its lead star, Selena Gomez herself.
In an Access Hollywood virtual interview, via HollywoodLife, Henrie and Sulkin talked about the possibility of doing a Wizards of Waverly Place reboot while promoting their new movie, This Is The Year. On the show, Henrie and Sulkin played the role Justin Russo and Mason Greyback, respectively.
Henrie admitted nothing had come to fruition about their planned reboot yet, but there was a lot of talk about it. Their exchange of ideas was only for fun right now, and nothing was official, however.
Sulkin added the show would always hold "a special place in their hearts." The love and feeling that they had built for each other on its over four-year run would never go away.
As a director, the interviewer asked Henrie to "take creative reign" over the possible reboot. This Is The Year marked the 31-year-old star's directorial debut.
So, he later revealed he already had some ideas about how it would possibly go. He went on to say that what made Wizards of Waverly Place special was him, Sulkin, Gomez, and Jake T. Austin treated each other as a family.
They all managed to stick together, like a real "family unit." So, if ever there would be a reboot, Henrie suggested it might be interesting to see if they would take a different path.
From here, they would have somewhere to go throughout the series. Henrie, also, revealed that he managed to maintain a close friendship with Gomez from the days of their hit Disney Channel show to today. So, they talked a lot about it and had a whole storyline mapped out, Entertainment Weekly noted.
He believed the reboot would have a "great future season" if they would start it off on the present day. Eight years later, after the show ended, they would be in their own worlds, doing their own things, and busy with their own lives.
Wizards of Waverly Place started airing in October 2007 and ended with a one-hour finale in January 2012. The Russo Siblings, Alex (Gomez), Justin, Max (Austin) competed in the family wizard competition.
Alex won and became the family wizard, while Justin became the new Headmaster of WizTech, managing to maintain his wizard powers. Maz, in addition, was picked to run the Russo family's sub sandwich shop.
