Nikola earlier stimulated investors' appetite by unveiling a series of teaser shots of the components of its upcoming fully electric pickup truck. The Nikola Badger is slated for an official unveiling at the Nikola World 2020 event in December. Ahead of the event, the company teased the industry by releasing the detailed specs of the hydrogen fuel cell electric pickup truck.
Nikola has not yet disclosed the full interior of the Badger, but it shared several pictures of the electric pickup truck's components. The company also announced that the frame, e-axle, and batteries of the Badger would be revealed in September. It is anticipated that the company would launch one of its distinctive features in Nikola badger.
Unlike other electric pickup trucks, the Badger can use hydrogen fuel cells as well as batteries to drive the powertrain. The idea combines a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). The concept provides advantages like less weight to carry, longer range and much faster refuelling.

Earlier, the company said that the Nikola Badger electric pickup truck could offer a range of 600 miles by fusing two power modes. Additionally, the company would provide a functionality that would enable users to calibrate through a touchscreen the amount of power needed to be drawn from the hydrogen cells and battery. The user can select where to draw the power; if it would be from the battery, the vehicle would be converted into a BEV. If the user chooses to draw power from the Fuel Cell, then the vehicle would convert to FCEV. Nikola, however, recommends that for optimal range, a combination of two power modes is required. The company is anticipated to announce an OEM partner for the production of Nikola Badger before the end of this year.

A formal launch is anticipated to happen in 2022 or earlier. Last June 29, Nikola opened pre-orders for the Badger. It required a cash deposit of at least $250 up to $5,000 for the Honey reservation package. Three days later, the company has 1000 reservations of the Honey package, which means around $5 million cash deposits.

In a tweet, Nikola Executive Chairman Trevor Milton shared that the company was monitoring around 1500 deposits per day without showcasing the Badger or around 200MM future revenue per day. Nikola Badger is one of the rivals of the highly anticipated Tesla all-electric Cybertruck pickup truck.
