Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won's suspense drama Flower of Evil continued to dominate the ratings for its Thursday timeslot.
Based on ratings provided by Nielsen Korea, Flower of Evil has been steadily climbing in the ratings in recent weeks. It maintained its position as the most-watched drama for Thursday. It charted a solid 3.5 rating for its latest broadcast.
The exciting thriller won over the competition, including Im Soo Hyang's When I Was the Most Beautiful (1.9 percent and 2.5 percent), and Song Jihyo's Was It Love? (1.973 percent).
According to a review by Forbes, one of the main reasons that viewers are drawn to the drama is Lee Joon GI's effective portrayal of a man who is living a double life.
The review lauded Lee Joon Gi for his subtle shifts of expression, which can transition from meditative to menacing in an instant. Reviewer Joan MacDonald said that, even though the actor was no stranger to portraying complex characters, his portrayal of Hee Sung in Flower of Evil was still refreshing to watch.
Other reviewers, also, gave positive feedback to Lee Joon Gi's ability to portray the role of a man suffering from an antisocial personality disorder with such ease, Soompi reported.
People who suffer from this condition are unable to feel the emotions typically felt by normal people. Critics said that Joon Gi's ability to pull off the scenes masterfully was a testament to his great acting skills.
Meanwhile, Moon Chae Won, also, earned praise for her portrayal of Hee Sung's wife Ji Won. Moon Chae Won portrays a character whose low self-esteem gets in the way of doing her job as a detective. Her constant struggle to follow her instincts has become one of the central conflicts of the series.
Flower of Evil is a reunion project for Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won, who previously worked on the Korean adaptation of Criminal Minds in 2017. Flower of Evil, also, marked Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won's drama comebacks.
It can be recalled that Joon Gi's last drama Lawless Lawyer and last movie Resident Evil: The Final Chapter were both released in 2018. Moon Chae Won's last drama Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter, and her last film Feng Shui, were released in 2018.
Flower of Evil airs on tvN every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:50 KST. The drama still has three weeks left before it releases its exciting finale.
