Daniel Kyri has been promoted as a series regular in the upcoming Chicago Fire season 9. The actor plays the role of Darren Ritter. The character has been on the show for quite some time and it looks like his story will be further explored now.

In a recent report from TVLine, NBC confirmed that Kyri will become a series regular entering Chicago Fire season 9. Ritter has been a recurring character since early in season 7. When Herrmann (David Eigenberg) fired Barns due to disrespect, Mouch (Christian Stolte) suggested Ritter fill the position.

Following the announcement, showrunner Derek Haas has something to say about Kyri being promoted as a series regular. He said that he's excited the actor will be appearing regularly in the upcoming installment and that Ritter has become a huge part of Firehouse 51.

Furthermore, the showrunner noted that Kyri plays the character with sincerity and depth that makes the room always excited to write for him. Then, he teased that viewers can expect "some big Ritter action" in the upcoming installment.

Meanwhile, the series is set to start production within the next few weeks. Yet, there are some health measures and guidelines that needed to be followed. The upcoming installment may tackle some topics happening in the real world, particularly the pandemic.

Aside from that, Chicago Fire season 9 will continue to address some individual relationships. For instance, there's a question as to what the future holds for Brett (Kara Killmer) and Casey (Jesse Spencer), as well as Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney).

In an interview with CarterMatt, Haas discussed what's next for these two potential couples in the upcoming installment. He made it clear that their relationships will be further explored in the new season. For Brett and Casey, it's been hinted that some of their feelings lie underneath the surface.

However, these two won't be together easily considering their current situation. Brett has just lost her biological mother, while Casey has gone through a divorce. Perhaps, they could lean on each other and their connection might lead to something deeper.

Also, the new season may revisit some of the episodes that weren't filmed in season 8. The previous installment wasn't able to wrap up everything due to the current health crisis. These episodes might be incorporated in the early run of the next installment.

Chicago Fire season 9 will, reportedly, premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 9 PM Eastern Time, on NBC.
