Prince William's former private secretary is, now, the new Cabinet Secretary of the U.K. Simon Case accepted the offer from Prime Minister Boris Johnson and will start at his new job this September, succeeding Mark Sedwill.

Johnson, reportedly, called up and personally talked to the Duke of Cambridge to get his permission to permanently hire Case in his government. Since the pandemic, the former private secretary had been temporarily working under Johnson at Whitehall for U.K.'s COVID-19 response.

According to reports, Johnson was pleased with Case's performance that he wanted him to become the top man in his Cabinet. Reporter Tom Newton Dunn tweeted that Case actually had plans to return to Kensington Palace after his work at Whitehall.

However, the prime minister made an appeal for him to stay in his office. Apparently, William agreed and took Johnson's call well. The Duke of Cambridge realized that this meant having an ally in the government when the second in line to the throne becomes the King of England one day. Prince William, reportedly, said that his support for Case's new job will help him as well, given the scale of challenges that will come as he ascends to the throne.

As the new Cabinet Secretary, Case, 41, is, reportedly, the youngest to hold the position since 1916. His main role is to oversee the day-to-day operations of Downing Street and to ensure that the prime minister's agenda are carried out.

Following the confirmation, Johnson released a statement to say that Case is ideally suited for his new role. The prime minister said that Case's years of experience serving the Royal Household will make him a "fantastic Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service."

Case, on the other hand, said the he's honored to be appointed to the role after witnessing first-hand the work of Johnson's team. The former private secretary said that it's his privilege to be able to deliver to the people as the new top person in Johnson's government.

Before working as Prince William's private secretary, Case was, also, working for former Prime Minister David Cameron and his successor, former Prime Minister Theresa May. Case, also, worked for the Department for Exiting in the European Union.

In 2018, Case was appointed to Prince William's office following the resignation of Miguel Head. Head was Prince William's private secretary from 2012 to 2018 and, before that, he was William and Harry's press secretary.
