Outlander season 6 hasn't started filming as of yet. But, it seems like the series is inching closer to production. Cast and crew are seemingly preparing for what's coming ahead and getting ready to start working amid the current global health crisis.
Previously, series star John Bell, who plays Young Ian, shared on Instagram some behind the scenes moments. He's getting his hair together to emulate the current look of his character in Outlander season 6. Aside from his unique look, one of the most interesting things about Young Ian is his backstory.
Bell's character got a Highlander history mixed with what he learned when he was with the Mohawk. The upcoming installment might spend some time to explore the latter storyline. It is important to better understand where Young Ian is coming from.
Meanwhile, Bell's post is an indication that they've been preparing for what's coming in the new season even though filming hasn't started. There are only a few details about the upcoming installment. However, the series could share more updates once production officially begins.
One of the major filming challenges here is the current global health crisis. Most of the scenes will likely have a handful of extras and limited control to comply with certain health guidelines and protocols. Some elements of the story might be changed to make filming feasible.
There's no clear indication as to when Outlander season 6 could officially begin production. Yet, CarterMatt noted it could happen sooner than later. For now, the top priority remains to be the safety of everyone on the set. Filming could start once the situation gets a little bit better.
In a related report, Sam Heughan (Jamie), Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Sophie Skelton (Brianna), Roger Rankin (Roger), author Diana Gabaldon, executive producer Maril Davis, and executive producer-showrunner Matthew B. Roberts joined the virtual panel on Paley Center's YouTube channel.
All of them discussed what viewers can expect in Outlander season 6, which is based on Gabaldon's A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Roberts teased that there's so much more to come in the upcoming installment, particularly with the Frasers and MacKenzies.
Both families have been putting themselves at risk, leading to their own sufferings moving forward. Yet, Roberts made it clear that the new season is not all about suffering since it could incorporate joy, as well. This is something that's being negotiated in the writers' room.
Outlander season 6 is expected to arrive sometime in 2021.
