Prince Charles is believed to be helping out Prince Harry and Meghan Markle financially after their royal exit. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not earning anything after they officially stepped back from their senior royal roles at the end of March.
After moving to Los Angeles, President Donald Trump made it clear that the U.S. government will not pay for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security bill. A spokesperson for the couple, then, noted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not planning to ask for security from the government.
However, previous reports revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle asked Prince Charles to "step in” after British taxpayers refused to pay for their security bills. The Prince of Wales is, allegedly, paying for the couple’s round the clock security. According to royal expert Charles Rae, the future king is “giving them £2million a year” to help them pay for their security.
But, Prince Charles may finally be freed from funding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they struck a mega-deal with Netflix. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s contract with the streaming giant is estimated to be worth up to £75 million ($100 million). Netflix and the coupe have yet to confirm or deny the speculations.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said, in their withdrawal announcement, that they want to be "financially independent.” So, this Netflix deal is a huge step for them to make their goal possible.
“It is certainly no surprise that, with such connections and with Netflix producing The Crown, which already has a worldwide audience, that the deal they have struck is likely to be enormously lucrative and mutually extremely beneficial," royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said.
