The official release date of Batwoman season 2 remains unknown at the moment. But, the good news is that production for the second installment has officially kicked off in British Columbia. We could get more updates in the coming weeks not that filming has started.

On Thursday, Sep. 3, executive producer Caroline Dries confirmed on Twitter that they're going to begin filming Batwoman season 2 starting on Friday, Sept. 4. This is good news given that the series has encountered some setbacks over the past weeks.

Even though production has officially started, there are certain health guidelines and protocols that should be followed. Due to the current global health crisis, the cast and crew need to comply with some restrictions to ensure their safety while filming on the set.

They might be required to wear masks, as well as follow the proper social distancing measures. Also, we could see some changes in the story since it's challenging for everyone to film certain scenes amid the pandemic. The top priority, for now, is to keep the safety of those who are working on and off-camera.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest reveals in Batwoman season 2 is that Ruby Rose is not coming back and she won't be reprising her role as Kate Kane. She departed from the series after playing the titular character for just one season.

Rose is s replaced by God Friended Me alum Javicia Leslie, who will play a new character named Ryan Wilder. She's going to be the new Batwoman, eventually. The story of the second installment revolves around Kate's sudden disappearance.

Now that a new character leads Batwoman season 2, we could expect a few changes, as well. For instance, Ryan's costume might be different from Kate's suit. The new costume is yet to be revealed, but there are speculations as to how it would look like.

Recent promotional arts suggest Ryan will have a brand-new suit. For instance, the latest artwork depicting the DC Multiverse, which was drawn by DC Comics' chief creative Jim Lee, teased Leslie's costume. The cape is the most noticeable thing here.

Ryan's cape is pure red, while Kate was jet-black. Also, Rose's version wore a belt on her suit but Leslie's character looks much more when it comes to utility. These could be some of the changes in Ryan's suit if ever confirmed she'll wear the suit depicted in the artwork.

Batwoman season 2 is slated to premiere at some point in 2021.
