This Is Us season 5 will continue to follow the complicated love life of Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley). He's been with Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge), Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison), and Madison (Caitlin Thomson. In fact, he's expecting a baby with the latter after spending one night together.
But, aside from these three women, Kevin has been involved with Zoe (Melanie Liburd), as well. The two were in a relationship through most of the third installment. But then, they weren't able to make it work due to issues of having kids. Now, the question is: will Zoe return in This Is Us season 5?
For now, there is no clear answer to that. After all, she never showed up in the season 4 finale even though a lot of past loves made a cameo. Yet, it seems like there's a reason as to why the character didn't appear. Speaking to TVLine, Liburd discussed whether or not she's coming back in the series.
The actress revealed that she was supposed to come back at the end of the fourth installment. However, she couldn't make it due to scheduling conflicts since she's in New York at the time. But, Liburd made it clear that she would love to come back if given a chance.
She also teased that whenever she bumped into the show's executive producer, Dan Fogelman, he always says they'll get Zoe back at some point. For now, it remains to be seen whether or not the character will make an appearance in This Is Us season 5.
The good thing is that there are a lot of ways how to get the character back in the story since she has ties to Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown). Zoe is Beth's (Susan Kelechi Watson) cousin, and the two have a very close relationship. There's a reason to bring Liburd's character back even without Kevin's storyline.
Meanwhile, This Is Us season 5 hasn't started filming at the moment. The series is, reportedly, set to begin production on Thursday, Sept. 24. If the plan will push through, we can expect the latest installment premiering in the fall.
However, CarterMatt noted that this is just a tentative start date and it could still be changed depending on the current situation. A lot of things should be considered first. Cast and crew need to follow certain health guidelines and protocols to ensure their safety while working amidst the global health crisis.
This Is Us season 5 is slated to premiere in November.
