Station 19 season 4 will be dropping its new episodes this coming fall on ABC. The series kicked off filming just recently after a long hiatus due to the current global health crisis. Now, the network has been sharing some updates as to what fans can expect in the latest installment.
Station 19 season 4 will be a little bit different for most of the characters, especially Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz). She lost her childhood friend Ryan (Alberto Frezza) and her father Pruitt Herrera (Miguel Sandoval) in the previous season.
Yet, aside from the personal storylines, the upcoming installment will focus on what's currently happening in the real world, as well. This could be the most challenging season so far for everyone, as we're going to see them taking on the global health crisis.
The pandemic will be a significant part of Station 19 season 4, just like Grey's Anatomy season 17. But, unlike the medical drama, this series will try to balance some of the chaos with lighter stories. While it's difficult for most of them, some stories could offer hope.
Entertainment Weekly shared the first poster of the new season featuring everyone in their uniform. The image comes with a message: "First one to respond, last to surrender." Firefighters always do their best to save and help others, but they'll be at greater risk this time around.
In Station 19 season 4, the team will be putting their lives on the line with the rescue, as well as in terms of infection. This is a challenging time for all of them but shows how far they can go just to save the lives of other people, as well.
But, amidst the darkness, the upcoming installment remains to be a "lighter." Speaking to TVLine, Krista Vernoff made it clear that the new season will be a lighter compared to the preceding ones. They'll incorporate happiness in the story while dealing with then hard times.
Vernoff said that there's so much death in season 3, and it brought real darkness to everyone. In Station 19, season 4, we'll see the team supporting each other while finding joy amid the heaviness of the world. This is a way to balance out everything that's currently happening in the world.
The series will be celebrating the team's heroism. There could still be some personal storylines in between, but the early run focuses on the pandemic. Everyone will try to comfort each other and stick together when the situation gets hard.
Station 19 season 4 premieres on Thursday, Nov. 12, on ABC.
