After reports that Apple would speed up the adoption of mini-LED displays in Mac and iPad series, another report mentioned that the iPad Pro could be the first-ever Apple device to release with the mini-LED display.

The latest information about the next iPad Pro came from the report of TFI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo as reported by Macrumors. The analyst's report claimed that the first mini-LED display would be likely in the next iPad Pro. based on the context of the report, the new technology could be in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that could arrive in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Cupertino company might strategically stagger the launch of the device as a way to boost the sales of the more expensive and bigger iPad Pro model, the analyst predicted. The cost of the iPad Pro next year might fall by 50% in 2021 and 35% in 2022. According to Kuo, the mini-LED has evolved from the technology development stage towards the economy of scale.

The analyst claimed that the results of price competition had been seen in the mini-LED TV market with costs dramatically falling. The combination of economies of scale, lower production cost and subsidies from the Chinese government would continue to drive down cost for the Cupertino tech giant.

Kuo said that Apple would accelerate the adoption of the mini-LED display because of the better than anticipated results of the current testings. This is mostly because of the new supplier Sanan Optoelectronics. Epistar will still be the main mini-LED panel supplier of the company, but Apple needs more suppliers to meet demands.

Apple is believed to be working on six devices that feature mini-LED display technology. This technology offers the same benefits to OLED like higher contrast and deeper blacks caused by localized dimming but without the drawback of burn-in. The mini-LED panel uses a wide array of thousands of tiny LEDs that serve as a backlight that could be turned off individually.

Kuo predicted that these six devices are the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 27-inch iMac Pro, the new 14.1-inch MacBook Pro, the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the 10.2-inch iPad, and the 7.9-inch iPad Mini. Apple could use the new technology to boost its iPad pro lineup following its announcement of the 10.9-inch iPad Air.

The latest device is far cheaper than iPad Pro and houses the same flagship features that the Pro could offer. Equipping the upcoming iPad Pro lineup with the mini-LED technology could help iPad Pro stand out from the rest.
