This Is Us season 5 has officially started filming just recently. The upcoming installment is originally set to arrive later in the fall. But, fans won't have to wait any longer now since the premiere schedule is moved at an early date. The series will be returning next month, October.
During the finale of America's Got Talent, it was confirmed that This Is Us season 5 will be kicking off its two-hour premiere on Tuesday, Oct 27, On NBC. This is unexpected news, considering the current situation. Production has just begun this September and a lot of works are needed to be done.
The first episode is being filmed, so there should be a quick turnaround from production to the new season airing. The good thing is that works can be done immediately since the show doesn't require much in terms of extensive post-production and special effects.
Meanwhile, series creator Dan Fogelman shared on Twitter a photo featuring Mandy Moore (Rebecca Pearson) and Jack Ventimiglia (Jack Pearson). The two are working on the set of This Is Us season 5 but at a safe distance. Both of them are wearing masks and socially-distanced with each other.
They're adapting to the changes and a new environment due to the pandemic. This is something that needed to be followed to ensure the safety of everyone else on set. Masks will always be required and may only be removed when filming certain scenes.
Aside from dealing with the current global health crisis, This Is Us season 5 will deliver stories about the pandemic, as well. Even though the series won't entirely focus on it, the situation could be one of the major factors in how certain people behave and act.
For instance, Miguel (Jon Huertas) and Rebecca might be even more isolated, especially since the latter is undergoing a clinical trial for her Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, the current situation could further expand the on-going feud between Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown).
These two aren't on talking terms and there's no indication that they're willing to reconcile. The pandemic could strain their relationship even more. They may further disagree with a lot of things, particularly with what they want for their mother, Rebecca.
The good news is that nothing has changed when it comes to the ending of This Is Us season 5. The story has been planned for a while already. While there could be alterations along the way, the series will stick to its main themes: family and drama.
