Edinson Cavani is getting a red-carpet welcome at Old Trafford and one proof of the confidence given to the Uruguayan is the No. 7 shirt he will be wearing on the pitch. The striker will continue the winning tradition identified with the shirt number, associated with Manchester United legends such as George Best, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

United signed the former Paris Saint-Germain star, whose last appearance was in March 2020. Cavani ended his spell with the Parisians as a fading star, his glorious years eclipsed by the emerging club superstars such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Mauro Icardi.

However, it's hard to argue that the 33-year-old was once a force to reckon with. In his 301 games for PSG, Cavani scored 200 goals and the figures make him the all-time top goalscorer for the club. It's quite obvious United will want to see the new signing flashing the old form that won Cavani titles and honors in Ligue 1 and Serie A.

The Red Devils are hoping Cavani still has a good year or two left and signed for a season-long deal with an option for another 12 months. And to give the player a good start, he will be inheriting No. 7, which also means great expectations, per the report from Metro.

It will not be easy for the aging star as he will join a squad just reeling from a humbling defeat against the Tottenham Hotspur. Already, Solskjaer's side has tasted two defeats at Old Trafford and there are worries Cavani would hardly make an impact.

The concerns mostly stemmed from the striker's lack of competitive football for over six months and the injuries that plagued him in his last season with PSG. However, Cavani insisted he is ready for what lies ahead, giving the assurance he worked to remain in good form while in forced vacation.

According to Solskjaer, Cavani will bring with him the experience that young United players can learn from. The Norwegian said his new player is among the best in Europe in the last 10 years, and on that note alone United roster members will be reaping huge benefits.

"He'll bring energy, power, leadership, and a great mentality to the squad but, most importantly, he'll bring goals. He has had a brilliant career so far," Goal reported the United manager as saying.

For his part, Cavani said player for Manchester United will be an honor. He added: "I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football."

The former PSG ace added his talks with Solskjaer made him even more excited for the matches to come and his desire to represent United is growing by the day. Cavani said he is focused on working and winning for United.
