Manchester United's dismal start in the Premier League could soon see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heading for the exit door. The Red Devils have lost two out of three games so far, and to halt the slide immediately the club is said to be bringing in a new manager and top on the list is Mauricio Pochettino.

Senior United officials have reportedly reached out to Pochettino on the possibility of taking over from Solskjaer. The former Tottenham manager has been out of work for nearly a year and it seemed the perfect time for a new job.

Solskjaer's side has been a disappointment in the season start. The Premier League giants lost two games at Old Trafford and the last one was humiliating. The team absorbed a 6-1 defeat courtesy of Tottenham, the same side that sacked Pochettino in November 2019.

It would seem that some in the United board are convinced Pochettino replacing Solskjaer the soonest will solve whatever ails the club. According to 90Min, the club board is looking to turn things around before the situation gets out of hand. Team officials are hoping the Argentine calling the shots at Old Trafford will lead to better fortune.

Putting faith in Pochettino makes sense for United. The former Spurs boss impressed in his years of handling the top job at Tottenham. He was shown the door late last year but Pochettino's reign saw the North London outfit finishing in the Top 4 of the Premier League in 2018.

Then in the following year, the Argentine's squad reached the Champions League finals, which is the best showing that the club can boast of.

Per the same report, one of the prime movers for United to switch managers is executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, a known fan of Pochettino. It is unlikely that Woodward will move too soon to show the exit door to Solskjaer but pundits said the speculations on the Argentine coming in should motivate the Norwegian to do better.

If improvements are not seen by November, Woodward could be prompted to make the United manager post vacant and pave the way for Pochettino's entry.

One thing to consider though for United before giving the job to Pochettino is his managing style. Mirror said the 48-year-old prefers enjoying full control of the side he is handling. That means Pochettino wants to have the last say on coaching concerns and the movement of players.

So it is up to United if they are willing to cede that much power should the rumored hiring of Pochettino will prove correct.

However, Solskjaer can still prove he remains worthy of the job. The Norwegian also started slowly last season but after the winter break and recruiting Bruno Fernandes to the side, United went on a winning run starting in January. The Red Devils wrapped up the season as No. 3 in the table and secured a spot in the Champions League.
