Cheaper and entry-level Android phones now have night mode photography capability courtesy of Google's Android Go.
Google just made your entry-level Android phone capable of taking those low-light shots with its Android Go. While it will not match Night Sight, Android Go makes it possible to take Night Mode photography and improve dark images even without using flash on your entry-level smartphones.
The tech giant is making low-light photography the battle cry of its new Pixel phones, which may not have fancy hardware when it comes to chipsets and other implements, but have top of the line camera technology that can make a professional photographer drool. As for cheaper and entry-level phones, Google also has a solution and that is Android Go. It gives your entry-level Android device Night Mode photography capability which greatly improves dark images.
The search engine monolith and tech titan has begun rolling out a Night Mode capability in the Camera Go app on Google Android Go to enhance the quality of photos on entry-level phones even without using the flash. This will allow you to take photos in low-light settings and come up with passable results that are definitely better compared to previous shots you took using a cheaper smartphone.
Although Google's Android Go Night Mode capability is not like the Night Sight on the new Google Pixel phones, it is an improvement when the feature is not yet available. You also need to remember that you are using a low-cost smartphone that does not have the technological advances and wizardry of Google's AI.

Google explained how the new Night Mode feature on Android Go works. The company said that it captures a burst of images taken at various exposures and then merges the photos into a single result. While this may be similar to the night modes that many other devices have, Android Go's camera app accomplishes the feat on cheaper smartphones using an app optimized for particular camera modules.
According to Google, it is making Night Mode initially available on Android Go for Wiko Y61, Wiko Y81, and Nokia 1.3. You may have to wait for some time to see an upgraded camera app on other cheaper smartphone models running Android Go. No matter what Android device you own, Google promises a host of features soon. The company has even hinted that the Camera app on Android Go will soon have HDR photo capability through an update set for release in the fall.
For some entry-level Android device owners, having an Android Go Camera app with Night Mode and HDR capability is a huge thing since HDR can greatly enhance photo quality across a broad range of scenarios, not just in low-light environments. Although the capability does not take the place of a good camera sensor, the update promises a huge improvement particularly if your phone often takes poorly exposed photos.
