The big screen adaptation of the hit franchise "Monster Hunter" has a new confirmed release date and unlike other movies, only Sony Pictures was able to move the release date up instead of delaying its release.
Sony officially confirmed earlier that Paul Anderson's "Monster Hunter," which stars "Resident Evil" actress Mila Jovovich is moving up from its initial April 23, 2021 release date back to December 30, 2020.
The upcoming film "Monster Hunter" comes from the same team that released the hit film series "Resident Evil." The latter raked in more than $1.2 billion in the global box office over its six films. Jovovich will star in the upcoming film with her husband Anderson as the writer and director.
Sony Pictures is undoubtedly anticipating that "Monster Hunter" would share the success of "Resident Evil." Apart from Jovovich, other cast members include Meagan Good, Tony Jaa, Ron Perlman and TI Harris. Sony recently shared a new synopsis for the movie that reveals more details about its plot.
In July, Sony moved the Mila Jovovich starrer "Monster Hunter" from its domestic Labor Day weekend date of September 4 to April 23, 2021. Over the weekend, Sony released a brief 13-second teaser of the movie. There was nothing much about the teaser, but it showed Mila Jovovich holding a minigun with her squad holding two rifles.
The recent "Monster Hunter" teaser also offered fans a peek at Black Diablos. These are some kind of gargantuan sand-loving Triceratops like beasts that gamers are familiar with. Sony also previously released some images of the film's crew in their costumes.

In a recent interview with Empire, "Monster Hunter" lead star Mila Jovovich revealed that her weapon of choice would be the dual blades. For the uninitiated, the upcoming film is loosely based on the popular Capcom game of the same title. The plot follows the story of Captain Natalie Artemis (Mila Jovovich) and her crew of elite soldiers who accidentally fell into a portal and got into a strange world inhabited by deadly monsters.
In this world, Capt. Artemis and her team will encounter a mysterious Hunter. This character could be their only chance of finding their way back to the world. Meanwhile, Capcom is still bolstering "Monster Hunter World: Iceborne" with fresh content and features.
At this point, it is not yet clear if the gaming studio is planning to release another expansion or a full sequel for "Monster Hunter: World." Recently, Capcom announced that "Monster Hunter: Rise" and "Monster Hunter: Stories 2" are scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch in 2021.
