The New York Knicks finished the season with only 21 wins and the organization is certainly aiming higher next time around. But first, the team needs to find the missing pieces to complete a competitive crew and on that, the Knicks would do well to consider signing Paul George.

PG still has a live contract with the Los Angeles Clippers but it would not be a surprise if the star is made available for a trade in the offseason. The LA club failed to make it to the NBA Finals and the humiliating collapsed in the playoffs led do speculations that a lineup overhaul is in order.

Sure enough, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer fired Doc Rivers as head coach and the word was out there will be more heads to roll, specifically players set to be eased out. It is understood that only Kawhi Leonard is untouchable in the Clippers roster, thus making George open for business.

But why the Knicks will want George on their side?

The answer is simple, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post. A careful scan of the Knicks roster will show that the team is without a certified star, at least somebody at the level of a Paul George.

The best that the NY club can boast of is Kevin Knox but Berman said the forward has a glaring deficiency in defense. Knox is more of a sixth-man for now and it will be a long way before the 21-year-old can ascend to superstar status.

The Knicks had Marcus Morris but he was sent to the Clippers last summer so it is imperative to sign a new star and the most attractive prospect out there is George. For the trade deal to start firing up, Berman proposed the inclusion of RJ Barrett or Mitchell Robinson on the table. Any of the two should be tempting enough for the Clippers, which likely will be gunning for younger replacements if PG is released.

New York must be prepared also to spend big as George will not come cheap. The star's existing deal entitles him to annual pay of around $35 million and the Knicks getting him will mean paying the amount in the remaining years of the 4-year contract.

Fadeaway World said signing up George should be a no-brainer for New York. Reports are widespread that PG might be no longer wanted in LA so he will be moving on in the coming weeks so the Knicks should make the move, and the sooner the better.

George with the Knicks will be a good jumpstart for the team. He is bringing with him 21.5 points per game and 3.9 assists with 5.7 rebounds. Hopefully though, PG will pick up on consistency next season, which should be a boost for his new team to start developing a winning tradition.
