The new trailer of The Conners season 3 teased what lies ahead for some of the characters. The sitcom has been mirroring the struggles of the real-life working-class, so it only makes sense that they take on a pandemic-theme storyline in the latest installment.
The clip shows the Conner family driving each other crazy as they spend a lot more time at home. Dan (John Goodman) and the rest of the clan grapple with their new reality. The latest season sees each of them tackling the pandemic while dealing with their personal issues.
The 90-second clip offers the Conners take on the current global health crisis and their situation. In one of the scenes, Dan's grandson, Mark (Ames McNamara), is wearing a mask and face shield, asking him about whether or not he has symptoms of the coronavirus.
In addition, the pandemic has affected the family financially, something that reflects what's happening in the reality. Beyond the real-life health crisis, The Conners season 3 will also show how the family tackles other issues including unemployment and low-income.
During the sitcom's virtual panel on Sep. 30, executive producer Bruce Helford said that the characters were built for disasters. He noted that they've faced a lot of trials over the past years and it's only natural to put them in the middle of the current situation.
Helford confirmed they're going to continue to address the pandemic. But, it remains to be seen whether this particular storyline will be part throughout The Conners season 3. For now, he revealed that they have already shot four episodes.
Meanwhile, Jay R. Ferguson has been promoted as a series regular in the new season. The actor plays the role of Ben, Darlene's (Sara Gilbert) boss, and boyfriend. The promotion is a hint that the relationship between these two will be further explored.
Ben is the newest addition in the crowded household. It's interesting to see the interaction between him and Darlene, given that they're now living under the same roof. Their love story may progress moving forward as they support each other during difficult times.
The Conners season 3 will be premiering on Wednesday, Oct. 21, on ABC.
