A new website set up to campaign for Meghan Markle as President is drawing mixed reactions from royal fans. According to royal observers, the site is obviously a spoof and mockery of the Duchess of Sussex's politics and beliefs.
The Sun called the website, Meghan for President, as phony, bogus, fabricated and a hoax. It contained a statement from Meghan Markle announcing her 2020 presidential candidacy when the actual U.S. elections is almost approaching and it's a close race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The website also has many of the duchess' statements, which were pulled from various interviews. The site also had donation buttons that actually do not link anywhere, so there's no money collected.
Sprawled across the page are photos of fans and supporters, including "live" feeds from Twitter accounts. The mock website looks like a real campaign and it appears to be professionally done. However, no one has come forward to admit their purpose for setting up the Meghan for President site.
The fans' reactions varied from disbelief to support. One fan said that if Meghan can stomach the scrutiny in politics then she must go for it.
Speculations that the Duchess of Sussex would seek office in America came out after Meghan participated in various political conferences since arriving in Los Angeles. She urged the women and the minority to vote this November and even got her royal husband involved in a TV appearance.
While Meghan and Harry didn't name a candidate or a political party, some took their participation as a sign of support for Democratic candidate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In the past, Meghan, who remains an American citizen despite becoming a royal, supported the candidacy of Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Reports also unearthed Meghan's childhood dream of becoming the President of the United States, which fueled the rumors that she has political plans. However, representatives of the Sussex pair issued a denial and said that Meghan would not be running for any post.
Sources said that Meghan is simply passionate about certain political issues. She is interested in engaging in political talk but she does not have political ambitions.
The assumption that she was going to enter politics angered the British people. They said that if Meghan Markle had political plans then she will have to give up her title as the Duchess of Sussex. Consequently, Prince Harry must also do the same as her husband and give up his title as the Duke of Sussex.
