The Boys season 3 is not coming on Amazon Prime Video until next year. The good thing is that the series has been sharing updates as to what viewers can expect in the next chapter. For instance, a new character is joining the Supes and he may cause further chaos along the way.
It has been confirmed that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will be joining the upcoming The Boys season 3. The actor is set to play the character of Soldier Boy, his first major role following The CW series, which will conclude this coming November.
Soldier Boy is one of the first celebrity superheroes joining The Seven and he could be a huge adversary moving forward. Speaking to a recent interview with Variety, showrunner Eric Kripke said that those who are expecting Jensen's character as a good guy will be disappointed.
In the comics, Soldier Boy is bumbling and subservient to The Seven's leader, Homelander (Antony Starr). But, as they're writing him in the series, Kripke revealed they started to talk about the history of Vought since Jensen's character is like John Wayne.
The showrunner further added the new character has been around for decades of Vought history. Soldier Boy was the "Homelander before Homelander." That means he's from a different era, and he's got the ego and ambition. Everything comes in a different way since he's from a different time.
It's interesting to see how Jensen's character could further shake up the story in The Boys season 3. He is not going to be the recreation of Stormfront (Aya Cash). While they may have certain similarities, they aren't fully in line with each other.
Soldier Boy is like Captain America in the comics. Technically, he's the leader of Payback, a lesser superhero ream to The Seven that consists of Crimson Countess, Swatto, Tek Knight, Eagle the Archer, as well as Stormfront. However, he was eventually outranked by the latter.
In The Boys season 3, Jensen's character is pegged as the original superhero and Payback. Reportedly, it will explore Soldier Boy's team and all the members in it. This could allow the writers to shed light on the series in the present, wherein it saw Stormfront manipulating a lot of people.
Meanwhile, there is no firm start date as to when production might start in Toronto. A lot of things remain uncertain due to the current global health crisis. But, Kripke teased that designer Laura Jean Shannon began construction on Soldier Boy's costume and a couple of other suits.
The Boys season 3 is slated to return at some point in 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.
