Supergirl season 6 is not coming until next year on The CW. The series wasn't able to go back in production immediately due to the current global health crisis. Despite the filming delays, the cast and crew are seemingly getting ready to get back to work.

Supergirl season 6 will pick up the remaining episodes left in the previous installment. Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor continues to be the Big Bad in the early run of the new season. In fact, the actor is already in Vancouver alongside other stars, preparing to deliver more stories moving forward.

Now, the question is whether or not Lex's presence could extend beyond his original appearance. There's a possibility that the series could further explore more of his backstory, as well as his inner villain. There could be more about him than wasn't shown as of yet.

We've already seen the nuanced business side of Lex. It's interesting to see other parts of his being addressed. We could learn more about him and some of the things he's been though before. Moreover, some of his deep secrets might be revealed along the way.

We have to be prepared for big stories, as well as unexpected twists and turns. CarterMatt noted that the series hasn't featured a lot of Big Bad over the past years. Lex could be the villain Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Lena (Katie McGrath) need to take down.

It's nice to see the two working together to defeat Lex and not being at odds anymore. They could simplify their dynamics and focus more on bringing something awesome. After all, Supergirl season 6 is the final installment of the series.

The CW and producers Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions previously confirmed that the upcoming installment is the last one for the Melissa Benoist -led series. It is the second show from The CW's DC Arrowverse series to end following Arrow.

Reportedly, Supergirl season 6 is a long one compared to the previous seasons. The creative team developed the storylines for the finale 20 episodes, which were said to be longer than most broadcasting series. But, there is no clear reason as to why it's officially ending.

Following the announcement, Benoist reacts to the news that the new season is the series finale. She said that she's honored to play the iconic titular character. Also, she felt humbled and speechless since the show has an impact on young girls around the world.

Supergirl season 6 is expected to arrive in 2021.
