Rick and Morty Season 5 is now in the works, but fans are still waiting for its official release date. It was recently announced that Season 4 is about to be out on HBO Max. With this announcement, viewers feel frustrated that it's not an update about the fifth season.

Before Season 4 aired, co-creator Dan Harmon revealed Rick and Morty Season 5 was in development. At the time, he announced he was already working on the new installment.

According to Devdiscourse, sources revealed people behind the show started working on the new season even before Season 4's release in November 2019. Harmon even assured that the fifth installment would be out sooner than expected.

At the time, Harmon proudly said they were more on the schedule this time than they had ever been. The COVID-19 pandemic even helped them focus on the show's whole process, despite not having the office environment.

As they seemed to be running in a bee colony today by working remotely, their product was "made more consistently." This setup even worked for them more. But, almost a year after his announcement, Rick and Morty season 5's release date is yet to be announced.

Instead, it was revealed Rick and Morty Season 4 is set to be out on HBO Max on Sunday, November 1. Although some fans are pleased with the news, others are disappointed, seeing there's no new update about the much-awaited new season.

Fans made noise on the Twitter universe to wish for Rick and Morty Season 5 update, Express noted. They also wanted to see Season 4 on different streaming websites.

One fan hoped the new update was about Season 5, while another said he was watching the new season in a parallel universe. Anyhow, with the renowned lengthy production of the animated series, add to that the issues brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the fifth installment might not be out until 2022.

As early as now, the show is surrounded by different theories, predicting it may officially end sooner than expected. Reddit user BojacksHorseman believed the show would end after Season 8, Digital Spy cited.

The previous season's sixth episode, "Never Ricking Morty," brought fans to the eighth stage of Harmon's Story Circle, "Having Changed." This narrative seemed to apply to the entire Rick and Morty story.

When Rick ran into the Story Train map, he said they were in carriage four, representing where the fourth season's said episode was set. Morty's grandfather then joked that they were about to get off at carriage eight, which could be Season 8 and might mean everything would end up in the said season.
