Netflix gives Narcos: Mexico Season 3 the green light, but there will be a lot of changes happening. The story about the modern drug war will continue and there will be new faces coming in front and behind the camera.
Fans will no longer see Diego Luna as the drug cartel leader Felix Gallardo on Narcos: Mexico Season 3. In an interview with IndieWire in April, the 40-year-old star said he wanted to take a break from the show after doing a lot of "intense" episodes throughout its two-season run.
Showrunner Eric Newman will also leave the series after working on the Narcos franchise for five seasons but will continue to be its executive producer. He will be replaced by the series co-creator, Carlos Bernard, Devdiscourse noted.
Also, Wagner Moura, who played the role of the Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in the first two seasons, will be behind the camera this time. He will be directing two episodes for the new season.
So, what will happen in the third season? Fans are about to see the investigation of the war that occurred after "Felix's empire splinters."
The new independent cartels will find it hard to survive the political issues and continuous violence. From here, a new generation of Mexican kingpins will try to conquer Narcos: Mexico Season 3.
NBC News noted fans would once again see the return of Scoot McNairy, Jose Maria Yazpik, Alberto Ammann, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, and Matt Letscher. They would be reprising their roles, along with Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda, and Gorka Lasaosa.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Newman said he was grateful for his five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. He was also proud of the success his team had attained through these shows.
Newman found it "insane" when they started working on this franchise in two languages and in a country that never had this kind of production. Fortunately, Netflix saw the show's potential and it never wavered its faith in his team.
He first talked to the series writer and executive producer Bernard about this show over ten years ago. So, Newman was completely at ease knowing he would leave Narcos: Mexico Season 3 in Bernard's hands.
Overall, Narcos: Mexico Season 3 will be the sixth installment to the franchise. Despite being on the air for years, the show remains a "top global performer for Netflix."
