Shameless season 11 is the final installment of the comedy-drama series. The show has been running on Showtime for almost a decade and it's interesting to see how the story officially concludes. There's a chance that some familiar faces will show up before the story wraps up.

Emmy Rossum's Fiona Gallagher is one of the notable characters within the world of the series. Her return in Shameless season 11 hasn't been confirmed as of yet, but fans were hoping to see her for one last time. After all, she played an essential role in the lives of the Gallagher family.

Rossum has been a series regular from season 1 to season 9. She is the oldest Gallagher child, who's been working since she was 16 years old. She took care of her siblings and father, Frank (William H. Macy), after their mother walked away.

However, Fiona began to struggle between taking care of her family and pursuing something for her life. She started coming into her own and becomes successful in the real estate venture. In season 9, she decided to leave and start anew somewhere else.

The question now is: Will Fiona come back to join the rest of the Gallaghers in Shameless season 11? While this is possible, CarterMatt noted there are complicating factors in terms of her arrival. One of the major challenges here is that the final installment is going to take on the pandemic.

The series needs to find a way to fit Fiona into the story while addressing the current global health crisis. If the pandemic storyline will be explored throughout the season, it's unlikely that Rossum's character is returning. There should be a reason why she has to travel back to Chicago amidst the health crisis.

Generally, it's difficult to get guest stars on board because of the current situation of the world. A lot of health guidelines and protocols should be followed. Also, everything all comes down to Rossum's availability and whether or not there's a right story for her character.

Meanwhile, the synopsis of Shameless season 11 notes that the Gallagher family and the South Side are at a crossroads. Frank Gallagher must resolve his personal issues, while his son Lip Gallagher (Jeremy Allen White) struggles to become the new patriarch of the family.

Ian Gallagher (Cameron Monaghan) and his husband Mickey Milkovich (Noel Fisher) were adjusting to the rules and responsibilities of being married. Deb Gallagher (Emma Kenney), on the other hand, embraces her individuality and single motherhood.

Carl Gallagher (Ethan Cutkosky) will have an unlikely new career in law enforcement. As for Veronica Fisher (Shanola Hampton) and Kevin Ball (Steve Howey), they need to decide whether or not their life on the South Side is worth fighting for.

Shameless season 11 premieres on Sunday, December 6, on Showtime.
