Shameless season 11 serves as the final installment of the Showtime series. There have been a lot of questions about it over the past few months, particularly as to when it could officially return. Cast and crew weren't able to start working immediately because of the current global health crisis.

But now, it looks like the production for Shameless season 11 has kicked off already. In a recent report from TVLine, it was confirmed that the show's final run has begun filming on Tuesday, September 8, which is the day after Labor Day.

Since everyone is back to work now, the cast and crew will be busy through most of the fall. There are a lot of stories that needed to be answered given that this is the series finale. Aside from tying all the loose ends since the beginning, it will address the real-life health crisis, as well.

Shameless season 11 sees the Gallagher family dealing with this particular subject. Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer John Wells made it clear that it's impossible to do a satirical comedy about the working poor without tacking the current issues within that community.

This is not a surprising move for the series since it already addressed some important and real-life issues in the past. Over the past years, the show delivered timely topics, including racism, politics, gender roles, homelessness, and sexuality.

In the final installment, the Gallaghers will deal with the current global health crisis and the story will be expressed in the series' signature lens. Perhaps, we could see each member of the family dealing with their own issues and problems amid the pandemic.

Meanwhile, it remains uncertain whether or not Emma Kenney is coming back as Debbie in Shameless season 11, since she also stars on ABC's The Conners. Both series got back in production at the same time so there could be scheduling conflicts for the actress.

Moreover, it's yet to be seen whether or not Emmy Rossum will reprise her role as Fiona in the final run of the series. But, Wells told TVLine that he would love to have all the cast returning in the series finale. Hence, Rossum's character might appear at some point.

As for the release date of Shameless season 11, nothing is confirmed right now. But since filming has started already, there's a possibility it could arrive either in late 2020 or in early 2021. Yet, everything all depends on the situation, as filming might be stopped again if they encounter setbacks along the way.
