This Is Us season 5 episode 3 is coming next week on NBC, with the title "Changes." Within this episode, we're going to see Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz) and Toby Damon (Chris Sullivan) pushing the adoption process. This is something they've been considering for a while now and it looks like they're ready to do it.
Kate and Toby are taking a big step in their adoption journey in This Is Us season 5 episode 3. They will be spending some time with a mother who's ready to give up her daughter for adoption. The mother sees the couple's good intention, though it's yet to be seen whether the process will go smoothly.
Kate and Toby must be prepared for whatever is coming to them as there's a possibility the mother will back out. While there's a question surrounding the adoption, the future sees Baby Jack (or Adult Jack) having a sister. However, it is unknown whether she's the couple's biological daughter or adopted.
In a previous interview with ET Canada, Metz shared what's coming for her character as the new season progresses. She, particularly, discussed what the future hold for Kate and Toby. Back in season 4, we've already seen the two debating whether or not to adopt a child.
Metz explained that although the pandemic storyline changed certain situations, Kate and Toby still want to live their lives. They're determined to push the adoption and hoping that the process would be successful -- as long as the mother won't change her mind.
Beyond Kate and Toby's storyline, This Is Us season 5 episode 3 sees Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) and Madison Simons' (Caitlin Thompson) relationship further develops. They're both dedicated to raising the twins together, but that doesn't necessarily mean their situation will be perfect along the way.
Kevin and Madison may encounter some challenges even if they're now engaged. After all, they're in a complicated situation. The two weren't in a romantic relationship when they slept together, and because of this, there's a possibility they could end up hurting each other.
Meanwhile, This Is Us season 5 episode 3 will continue to explore Randall Pearson's (Sterling K. Brown), as well. He found out that his biological mother, Laurel, is still alive. This is one of the huge revelations in the two-part premiere episode, and it could lead Randall to search for his mother.
