Meghan Markle reportedly did her civic duty as an American and voted early through the mail-in ballot. She makes British history as the first modern member of the royal family to vote in the U.S. elections.

According to a source via Page Six, the Duchess of Sussex was quite excited and was not going to miss the chance to make her choice in this elections "no matter where she was living." The friend stated the obvious that Meghan is an American first before she became a part of British royalty.

Daily Mail reported that the Sussexes are closely monitoring the results of the U.S. elections at their Montecito home. Prince Harry, however, did not vote since he's not a citizen of the United States.

The Sussexes are still part of the royal family while no longer working royals serving Queen Elizabeth.

In August, Meghan told Marie Claire that she was going to vote to use her voice and her exercise her fundamental right. The Duchess of Sussex also had a one-on-one discussion with feminist Gloria Steinem about the value of women voting at the polls. Meghan said that women fought hard to be able to exercise this right. In U.S. history, women were granted this right 100 years ago on Aug. 18, 1920.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry said in a video statement that voting was something he could not do "his entire life" since members of the royal family are expected to be politically neutral. However, he campaigned for a clean election and urged people to reject online misinformation and negativity.

But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex drew some backlash for allegedly interfering with American politics. Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri wrote a letter to the British government urging their leaders to stop Harry and Meghan from talking about the elections when they have "foreign titles."

Though Harry and Meghan never named any candidates, their statements were seen as an endorsement for the Democrats because of Meghan's background. Smith also urged the British government to strip the pair of their "titles, styles and privileges" if they will keep talking about American politics.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Sussexes revealed that this is just the beginning for Meghan's political activism. The couple still plans to be actively involved in politics because they believe this is the value of a democratic system.

Meanwhile, friends are speculating that Meghan is actually setting the groundwork for her future as a politician. According to Vanity Fair, there are speculations that the Duchess of Sussex will eventually give up her royal status in favor of a political position.
